lon from amateur football. The mention of a period of six months in 17 cases, one year in one case and two years, in two enses indicated merely that applications for reinstatement ax amateurs, which might have been submitted at any time but for the #pecial reference, would not be con- *idered for those periods. Once de elared professional, a footballer re- mains a professional for ever, unless he shows good caine to the governing body for reinstatement. The - Singa- paro Amateur Football Association, tof whom the application for reconsidera- tion has been addressed, cannot take decisive action that will vary an important ruling of its own. The matter must be referred to the Foot-! ball Ansociation of Malaya which meets at Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 4. The Singapore Football Association in competent only to seek the permission of the senior body to vary its decision of March 28. That such permission will be sought and granted is virtually |
rerlain.
There is one other body concerned In this unfortunate occurrence and it deserves very high tribute for the correct and dignified attitude which it has adopted throughout. That is the Malay Football Association to which the penalised players belong. That body has been very hard hit but, having agreed by the set of affiliation to accept the council of the Singapore Amateur Football Association as the Judicial authority in such matters, it has rightly refrained from offering any comment on the decisions and from making any acial representation, either on behalf of itself as a body or on behalf of individual members. Rigid adherence to this attitude is most praiseworthy and has doubtless tended to intensify sympathy among those who were compelled by the rules to take a serious view of the matter |brought to their notice.
