GREAT FIRE IN FRANCE

SIXTY MILES OF

- FOREST

THREE KILLED

Toulon, July 26. At least three lives have been claimed and well over a million sterling damage caused by onc of the most disastrous forest fires in modern French history.

The fire is still raging, over an aron elxty square miles in extent! One castle has already been on- gulfed by the flames and completely destroyed. Efforts to isolato two others were partly successful and they have only been partially damaged by the uutbreak.

Practically the whole of the Forest of Maures is threatened by the disaster, the loss in which in ofBelally estimated at one hundred million francs.

VICTIMS SUFFOCATED.

The victims were two soldiers and a workman among the hundreds of fire-fighters. All three were overcome by smoke fumea and died of sulfocation. Scores of others are suffering severely from the times.

The fire was spreading to-night nt the rule of ten miles an hour, fanned by a steady breeze.

NAVAL AID,

Five theusand troops are now fighting the blaze and Admiral Dubois, commanding the Freuch Mediterranean Fleet le concentrat- ing all available vessels at Le Lavandou, where the fire is at its worst.-Reutar.
