In the, lurid land of Fallywood Robert Montgomery, is the leading exponent of sanity. In filmland,; where divorcos, are as common as palm trees, Bob Montgomery steers a naf course, leading the quiet life of any intelligent young warried man anywhere. In an interview at the Motro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, while Montgomery was working in "Fugitivo Lovers," the exelting now molodramă, which opens to-morrow at the Queen's; Theatre, he said: "I guess I'm too interested in the actual business of motion pictures to be influenced by anything ole. Furthermore, I find my deepest happiness with my wife. To me there is something vasentially moronic about the endless pursuit of an intangible something for which people search in nightclubs, 'wild parties and the like. If you like it

well! But I don't happen to bo able to appreciate its dubious plea- sures. Fun for me means a stif game of tennis, or a game of cards, or an interesting discussion with people I really care for. 1 can have more fun going fishing with my wife than I could have with any dozen other people. It is a significant in- sight into the star's character that all his friends of the old days are still his friends to-day. While "Faxi- tive Lovers" was in production, Mont- gomery could often be seen sitting earnestly talking in a comer to some obscura visitor what he hadn't been for years. While he declares that his private life is his own, Montgomery admits that any one in the limelight! is, in a sense, a public character.

The screen version of Richard Aldington's epic romance, "All Mon Are Enemies, is now at the King's Theatre. Helon Twelvetrees portraya the role of the beautiful Viennese girl opposite Hugh Williams, an Englishman who is a newcomer to the American screen. Both players have their greatest screen roles and reports indicate that their charactor- fzalion In this film will lead to stardom. Although this is Hugh Williama's first appearance in American-made film, he has already enjoyed an enviable career as a stago and screen star in his native Eng- Inud, American stage audiences had their first glimpse of Williums in the role of Captain Stanhope in End". In support of Williams and Miss Twelvetrees, the cast boasts of such names as Biona Barrio, Herbert Mundin, Henry Stephenson, Walter Byron. Una O'Connor, Matt Moore, Halliwell Hobbes, Rafaela Ottiano and Mathilda Comont, George Fitzmaurice directed from the acreon play by Samuel Holfenstein and Lenore Coffee.

Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer hit. It'brings to the sereca in Ernest Truex n comedian, who is both old and new to Holly) wood. During the earlier years, while he was rising to fame, as the lending character of the speaking stuge."--"Truck appoared in several allent Olms, but it remained for this, his first talking pleture, to reveal to picture fans the great

power for laughter he wields. Truex starred in the Broadway stage production for eleven solid months in "Whistling in the Dark," and picture critics must now agree with their New York stage brethren that both to comedy and spine-chilling thrills, here is a play which ranks with the very best. Una Merkel, who distinguished herself as In comedienne in "Red-Headed woman,

again gives a delightful and droll performance. Edward Arnold and John Miljan, as leaders of a band of crooks who hold Truex and Miss Merkel captive, are well east, and competent work is done by C. Henry Gardon, Johnny Hines, who turna from comedy to character acting, Joseph Cawthorn, Nal Pondicton, Tené Holtz and Marcella Corday. The plot brings Truex, as an author of best-selling mystery novels, and Alu fiancee, Miss Merkel, into the infr of a band of law-breakers who are fighting for control of the brewing business after it has become legal. When Truex boasts how, in his stories, he devises the "perfect crime," they! insist that he plan one for them. How he plans this crime, only to Journ that the gang are going to wipe |both himself and the girl out, and then rets about saving the intended victim, who is hundreds of miles away aboard 4 speeding train, provides the materi al for the suspense and laughter of the story. This Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer film brings to light a most promising director in Eillott Nugent.

"Orient Express"

The most important development in motion pictures recently is the tond- ency to place all-star casts in stories that are particularly written for number of outstanding characters instead of placing single stellar për- sonalities in atorios that centre around one person. Such is the opinion of Ralph Morgan, acreen and stage character of many; years' experience, who has recently com pléted a role in "Orient Express”, the Fox film with Heather Angel und Norman Foster that comes on Tues day to the King's Theatre. "It is not only that I personally enjoy all-star cast sercon plays instead of single- star production", Morgan says, "but many of my friends and acquain- iances, both in and out of the show, business, hold the samé view, An for myself, I get tired of watching one person on the screen or on the stage for that matter. When you get "a diversified interest among various characters in the same story' your interest in the events in the story and its characters in naturally increased.'
