U.S. ABANDONING BASE IN MANILA
London, June 1.
It is hinted that the Unit- ed States may shortly abandon its naval bases in the Philippine Islands.
The report comes from America and declares that the United States Intends to withdraw her Squadron from Manila, although sho is entitled under the Philip- pine Independenes Act to main- tain a naval base there,
The report is referred to by the Morning Post's diplomatic corres pondent, who says it is undertsood that the move must be regarded ne atrategical, the Squadron being too weak to defend itself against possible enemy forces that would be available before the arrival of help.
