New York, May 24. Almost unprecedented industrial labour unrest in the United States is rapidly developing towards a crisis.
Toledo, Ohio, Minneapolis, and San Francisco are the storm-centres of the moment, but there is grave reason to fear that the tendency towards violence and lawlessness will spread.
Remarkable scenes were witnessed to-day at Toledo
where despite the liberal employment of tear-gas bombs by the police and troops, the Electric Autolite Factory strikers fought persistently throughout a hectic afternoon,
?
Finally, the National Guard which had been ordered out in the early morning, opened fire on the rioting strikers, killing two and wounding twelve others.

Geneva, May 24. China has not yet taken any official step following the announcement of Sal- vador's recognition of Man- chukuo.
Mr. Victor Hoo, the Chinese Consul-General in Geneva, to-day conferred with M. Avenol, Secre tary-General of the League of Na tions and inquired of him regard- ing the Lengue's intentions about Salvador's recognition of Man- chukuo.
The talk lasted for an hour, but there was little of importance pro- |duced.-
