NEW ALTITUDE RECORD

A new world's altitude record for an aeroplane fitted with a heavy-oil engine is claimed by Mr. H. J. Penrose, the chief pilot of the Westland Aircraft Company, who carried out the test flights for the Everest Expedition.

It is believed that Mr. Penrose renched height of 28.500 feet (nearly five and a half miles) which Is 6,600 feet higher than the pre- viona American record.
