BRITISH GARRISON INSUFFICIENT?

London, May 14.

At question time in the House of Commona to-day. Mal-Gon, Sir Alfred Knox raised the matter of In the Britfal garrison forces Shanghai, romarking that the Зарапово and French forces already exceeded the British, who would be relegated to fourth place If the United States forces should bo increased.

He suggested that this position was incompatible with the British position in Shanghai.

Sir John Simon, Foreign Becrot- ary, replying, said he had received Sir Alexander no report from

Cadogan, the British Miniator to China, regarding any increase in the United Statles' forces in Shanghai.

He did not consider any useful purpose would be served by in- quiries with regard to the inton- tions of the American Government.

The Minister made no reference

to the general question of the size of the British garrison.

First Lord Questioned,

Mr. A. C. Moreing, Conservative, asked the First Lord of the Ad- miralty whether the Naval Attache at Peiping had reported with re- gard to the intention of the United States to Increase its forces In Shanghai.
