George Kaufman and Robert Sher- weed wrote "Roman Scandal" as a Huccessor to Eddie's "The Kid from Spain" of last year: Eddle will be Hech n wistful brow-beaten lad from West Rome, Oklahoma, who finds hintself in the Rame of the Caesars and involved in breath-taking adventures antong the beautiful slave girls, the thundering chariots and the, conspiracies of the imperial court. The good people back in West Rome are a little uncertain about Eddie, as he trundles along in his grocery wagen, talding familiarly with his clumping nag, Julia. Most of them consider hint a little looney in a harm- less way. Not only does he talk to his horse, but he gives his groceries away anyone who seems hungry. And then, too, he spends hours day- dreaming in the town's museum binong the statues of the heroes of classic antiquity. This latter pursuit no completely takes hold of his im- agination that he is carried back to anelent Rome where he becomes in- volved in a plot to rescue the beauti- ful captive Princess Sylvia from the lustful clutches of the Emperor. After a narles of nad misadventures, he is finally made foot-luster In the Imperial household and becomes a court favourite-especially with the voluptuous Empress, who entanglon him in a plot to poison her wicked consort. In an attempt to aid the Princess Sylvia and her lover who Jaro trying to escape and save them frem a conspiracy against them, Eddie tears after them in a thunder ing charlot-with the Emperor's soldiers on his heels or rather his wheels. But Eddio comes through and is transported to West Rome, whore he is seen spiritedly recounting hia adventuros to Julla.
