TRAGEDY IN WANGHAI INVESTIGATED NE

The deaths of Tal King-hing alias Phillip Paterson (25) and Wong Ah-mol, his concubine, (20), who were discovered lying In theft bed on the third floor of No 101 Lockhart Road, on. March -11, was further. Investigat ed by Mr. Hamilton, sitting, as Coronor, with a Jury comprising Mosara. D. C. Robb (foreman). CV. Carlos and C. A. O, Baptisto, at the Central Magistracy yester day afternoon,

Chu Hung-young, alias Gilbert Chu, said he had known the de- coased, Taj King-hing, for over nino years, He knew deceased's wife, and had also mat Wong Ah- mel on one or two occasions. Tai, King-hing' always used to go to dance halls, even before his wife, went to hospital. Witness thought that deceased's wife was Jealous of Wong Ah-mei. He did not know the relations botivoon both doceased. On March 11 Tal King-hing brought a girl, Lei Chi- man, to a friend's house in Happy Valley, and there they had a game of mahjongg, after which they went to the China Emporium for ten. Decessed had three: brandies. He appeared to bo' rather exelted, and after each danco put his head on his arms, and appeared to be weeping. Deceased told him there that a fortune teller had told him he would not live past Sunday, Witness did not pay much head to what he said. Decensod never mentioned he was going to com- mit suicide. He WAN always choerful, but very hot. tompered, and would never listen to advice. Witness saw him later at the Lido Dancing Academy. Ho ap poured to be sad, but was not drunk He left at midnight, and witness novor saw him again..

At the Emporium deceased gayo him a photograph of himself and n fountain pen. He thought de- ceased was joking.

Kam Kwal, an amab, employed by deceased, said that Wong Ah- mel was Tal King-hing's .con- cubine, but it was not actually recognised. His wife was friend- ly with Wong Ah-mal. Deceased got on well with both Since his wife's admission to hospital, Tai King-hing never sed to como homo for his suppor, and fre quented dance halls. He took Wong Ah-mot to the theatre, and on many occasions took her out dancing. She never heard either of them threaten to commit auicide. No once brought Anule Lau and another girl home, but Wong Ah-mel was not angry with him and chatted with them.

The Last Meal.

On March 11 about 8 p.m. Wong Ah-mel went to bed. Tal King- hing came home a little after midnight Witness-got-up-and- prepared, the meal for him. It was unusual, for him to have his meal so lato. He then asked her to go to bed and not to wait up to clear the meal. She went to bed. Later Wong Ah-mel brought her a letter which she sald to hand to Tai King-hing's wife. They both then locked themselves in the cubicle and dimmed

the light. Later Bhc heard a noise, which sounded like acry or a laugh. She woke Ah Sam, the other amah," and naked what the two were doing inside the cublelo. They became frigh tened, and she went and knocked at the door but received no reply. She then climbed into the cubicle and found them both on the bed clasped. in each others arms, as if asleep. She shook them but got no response. The meal wos loft untouched, and she saw two glasses and two empty bottles on the dressing table. She had Dover Been the bottles. bofore. She could give no reason why they killed themsolves. The. sound she had heard sounded as If it had been made by two people at the same time.

Wong Sam, the other amah, then gave similar evidence, after. which the bearing was adjourned for 2.16 p.m. on April 23.
