THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH. WEDNESDAY, MARCH
PROMOTION PROSPECTS AGAIN
HAVE DERBY LOST
THEIR CHANCE?
STOCKPORT SETTING NEW PAGE

WEDNESDAY LEAP TO THE FOREFRONT
(By "The Pligrim"),
With Wednesday adding their challenge to the formidable bulk of First Division leaders, Queen's Park and Stockport coming up in great form," and the recent upset by Rangers in the Scottish senior section, the promotion prospects so confidently established a couple of matches ago are again in the mosting pot.
Derby, I am afraid, have thrown away their golden opportunity. They are still lying third but if they had taken their opportunities the Rams would be heading the list now.
They have another chance to improve on Saturday when Chelsea will try them out on the Baseball ground. It will be a keen game with the Stamford Bridge Club still fighting gallantly to get out of the relegation rut.
The 'Spurs late come-back may not be too late but now that Arsenal have gotten into their early season form, they will take some passing.
Huddersfield's top position is very precarious and they will need more than a good goal average to remain there after this week I am afraid.
Wednesday are their next opponents and with so much at stake on both sides I cannot see any other result than a draw.
TO BEAT THE BOOK
HOME-
J
There is no reason, in my opinion, why Portsmouth and Manchester City should drop their magnificent form because they have the remaining interest in the Cup. With the Final all booked up and some weeks off DRAWI they can both abandon themselves to getting a'warmer place in the sun at the top of the League,
Birmingham have now slumped to share with AWAY: Chelsea the humiliating task of supporting the table. Of course somebody has to be there and Birmingham's árrival is all in the game. The same cannot be said! for the Ponsioners who have had a consistently badmi spell from the beginning of the season.
I am afraid that Grimaby have now joined the untouchables ➡speaking "in "a"sporting" sense. They have only-to-maintain | reasonably good farm to gain higher status next season.
Lincoln, after several signs of fair weather, have settled -down definitely at the bottom of this Division and Manchester United come next havin£löst their first fine promise and become the disappointing club they were last season,

However it is often that the challengers falter within reach of their goal and it may be that Stockport will find it impossible to keep up the rattling pace they have set in their last six or seven matches.
Rangers have a chance of improving their position and-it is up to Motherwell to justify their right to the leadership where they stagnated so long.
