William Arthur Tanner, jnr., of Chicago, U.S.A., was this morning convicted by Mr. Balfour, at the Contral Magistracy, on the charge of having falsely obtained the sum of 840 from Lane, Crawford, Ltd., on November 26 last, by pre- tending he was authorised to collect it on behalf of the V.R.C.

Defondant was fined $150 and ordered to pay $40 amends to the complainants. He was given 24

hours in which to raise the money.
