(Our Own Correspondent). Foochow, Jan. 20. It has been exceedingly hard to find out the truth about what really happened in the fighting up-river, as the Government newspapers naturally continued right up to the end, to report great victories.

Would they try to make a stand in or near Foochow? that was the question that kept many of the 'People on' the strain.
