OPERATING TABLE MURDER

Alleged Confession By Mother-In-Law

New York, Nov. 24. The gruesome and balling mur- der mystery on which the Chicago and Illinois police havo, been work- ing day and night was apparently, solved to-day when detectives nn- nounced that Dr. Alice Lindsay Wynekoop, the well-known-mid- Wentorn physielan, confessed to the killing of her daughter-in-Inw, Rheta.

The crime became known into on Tuesday night, when the girl's ul most unclothed body was found with a bullet through the back on the operating table in the base- ment of Dr. Wynckoop's mansion, In the exclusive West Side section of the city,

The most convincing evidence of Dr. Wynckoop's part in the crime was the finding of a chloroform bottle near the body, which led the police to believe that Rhota was unconscious when shot. A pistol was found on the table wrapped in a towel, this being taken to indicate an attempt to destroy finger prints. Three shots were fired, although trace was found of only one eater- ing the body.

All members of the family at one time were placed under suspicion. heta's husband, Mr. Earle Wyne- koop, who was not found on the night of the murder, was found in Kansas City the following day. Upon arrival in Chicago he prompt- ly placed himself at the disposal of the police.

In the closing chapters of this mystery came a surprise when Dr. Wynekoop admitted the killing after three days' cross-examination. In a detailed statement no given out to the police Dr. Wynekoop is (alleged to have said:
