MR. WOODIN DEFINITELY RESIGNS

Mr. Henry Morgenthau, Jr. has been appointed Se- cretary of the Treasury Do partment, in which capacity he has been acting for somo weeks.

It is learned that Mr. W. I Woodin tendered his resignation in mid-Decembar to become effective on January 1, and that Mr. Mor genthau was formally installed in office on New Year's Day.

It is revealed that Mr. Woodin, who has been ill in a hospital in Arizona, sent a letter to the White Houso on December 13, addressed "Dear Governor," and, written in cordial terms, asking to be re- Hoved from his duties on January
