ENGLISH FLAT RACING

SEASON REVIEWED

SOME INTERESTING NOTES ABOUT LEADING OWNERS, HORSES, TRAINERS & JOCKEYS

:

Below will be found an absorbing review of the English Flat Racing season which recently concluded. It appeared in a recent issue of the. Sunday Sportsman, and contains several mutters of interest to race-goers, Once again the "Cease Fire" at Hallie Umidwar, Mes. Ruston had Manchester has sounded the kneil of a fairly busy season, winning three yet another rachu enson, but it has races out of five and finishing second to be confessed that it was a cheerful in the other two. Though wide as the poles asunder, it is indisputable that commerce and racing reflect one another. If things are going badly in the world of bugi. ness then we must expect that racing and breeding will be more or less in the dildrunis, but when the sun of shines on commercial and undertakings thon racing ал its ancillary undertakings flourish and expand in the reflected, warmth.

Even the most hardened pessimist can but admit that racing and breed- ing have looked up very considerably in the past few months, thanks to the fact that British credit now stands as high ever it did and British trade is advancing with sonorous step along the road to prosperity.

There is now actually talk of a

COLOMBO'S OWNER.

Dividing Lord Derby and the Agai Khan in the list of winning owners comes Lord Ganely, whose position in the list le, like that of Lord Derby, mainly due to one horse. His lord- ship's champion is, of course, Colombo, who was almost as much in front of the two-year-olds as was Hyperion in front of the three-year-olds. The son of Manna ran seven times, without tasting defeat; indeed, he won all his races with ease save the first and His drst race resulted in a tight fit. with Camparwin, who lind hand experi ence, whereas the cult was

DAILY WORK BEING DONE BY DERBY SUBSCRIPTION GRIFFINS AND AUSTRALIAN ANIMALS

(By "Capt. Foster")

The past week has been most interesting and I was very much impressed with quite a number of gallops. The course is full of activity these mornings, and one is kept fully occupied watching each gallop-singly or in pairs-as the ponies come sweeping down the straight, at intervals of fiften seconds or less, during the busiest hour of the morning between 6-45 and 7-45 o'clock.
