FINE HANDICAPPING
HOW THE VERDICTS WENT IN 104 RACES
WEIGHTS FOR AUSTRALIAN PONIES SHOULD BE REDUCED
Handicaps formed the major part of our progammes at Extra Race Meetings, and in fact they gave us our best racing; this being the case I havò purposely glvén much time in compiling a record of them. I find that, during the year, we had one hundred and four Handicaps, with the following results:———

This Australian, to me, up to the present, undoubtedly the best animal seen on the course, under racing colours. It was, I understand, through this incident that the Stewards of the Hongkong Jockey Club reduced the maximum weight from 180 lbs. to 170 lbs. for Australian Ponies.
I feel that the weight is still too high and perhaps the Stewards

REVIEW
"Captain Foster," the Telegraph's local racing cor-. respondent to-day presents his review of the 1933 season. it covers all angles of the Hongkong turf during its past nine months of activity," and as will be seen, includes number of interesting statistics.
Not the least absorbing feature of this review is the record of winners of all handicap events, including penios who carried weight for inches, who carried weight for inches and who carried under weight for inches.

The attendance was well up to the average, but there is no doubt that, posluly owing to the general financial depression through which we are passing, there has been a considerable falling off in the Cash Sweep receipts.
Criticisms conducted in the right spirit are always commendable, and, before each Meeting, it is not unusual to hear some disgruntled Owners saying that they consider their ponies have been unduly ponalized, but, in the light of the above figures, one will admit that the Official Handicapper, Mr. The Clark of the Course is to be C.M.S. The return would have been $6,173 but, as the last named pony was not backed, this som was refunded to the 59 ticket holders of Ration in the shape of $104-60 per ticket.is misfortune, we must It is a little surprising that Widnes was not played at the Daily Double as the pony had 88 backers for a win and 115 for

Ten Records Broken During The Season
13
In the China Pony (Cross-bred) Class five records vere-broken this year, Liberty Bay accounting for three, nd it may be interesting to mention that this animal broke a record each time he faced the Starter.pvek
Five records were actually broken and one record equalled in the Australian Class. Rosy Morn's record of“ 11003-29 1/5 for the mile and three quarters in the Fremantle St. Leger is, not, however, an official one, the mare carry- ing 4 lbs. below weight for inches. Woodland Stag's time of 3-35 2/5 remains the official one, and from the details $ 7480 given below it will be noticed that this time is 23 seconds" 2250 slower than that of Liberty Bay, this animal taking 3-82 2150 4/5 to win The Challenge Cup this year in a common
