A big drive to improve Ger many's dwindling foreign trade was inaugurated", to-day: at the first meeting of the newly in- stituted Foreign Trade Council.

The gathering was attended by Baron von Neurath, the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and by Herr Schmitt, the Holch Minister of Economics..

The Foreign Trade Council will, it is understood, act in a purely advisory capacity, but it is ex pected that its recommendations. will carry considerable weight with the Government, whose organ it really is.

Herr Schmitt, addressing the Council, pointed out that Ger- many's exports had declined by 7.1 per cent, since 1932, while the
