NOTES SUPPLIED BY THE THEATRES
*Threo good tunes and a klek in the panta for your wow blackout. Can you make a hit show of it?” Thesy are the first sentences in Bradford Hopea' novel, "42nd Street," and they colour the length of Warner Bros? new gigantic picture of the same name which opens on Sunday at the Queen's, In the picturo, the words are address. ed, to Warner Daxtor, who plays the rale of a veteran stage director with a hundred hits to his credit. What he does to the three good tunes and the kick in the pants form the basis for "42nd Street.” But not quite all of it. Warner Bros. have gathered together in this tale of the Klalto's backstage a gripping dramatic abry of the theatre of to-day, of the problems. heartaches and tears, the good times, lighthearted camaraderie and carefros days, when there's money in the noc- ket, forty weeks more of work ahend, and nothing to worry about, all of which make up stage exintonce. Chorus girls-to the number of about one hundred and fifty-stars, direc-i tra, singer, songwriters, hoofers, crooners, comics, heavies, juveniles and ingenues-they're all there. And Warner Baxter, Debe. Daniels, George Brent, Una Morkel, Ruby Keeler (Mre. Al Jolson), Guy Kibbee, Ned Sparks and Ginger Rogers. Warner Bros, were the first to try musicni pictures on a lavish scale, and, enough was learned from them to assure the pro ducera that there was s publie demand for dramatic pictures with the music and dances. The result of some three years preparatory work on this theme has resulted in "42nd Street," per- haps the rat pleture to incorporate music and dance into the story in a dramatic manner.

"Mystery of the Wax Museum"
Many of the scenes In "The Mystery of the Wax Muscuni," the Warner Bros, picture that commenced ita ran yesterday at the Queen's and which in Bald to be the most exciting thriller of the year, were of necessity made behind locked doors, as the girls who appear as models for a wax sculptor, were required to appear in what is known to the art world as "the altogether." In order to reproduce exact likenesses of these girls' Agures, plaster casts were made their bedies first. Then the casts were
used for the wax reproductions. Llonel Atwill, who plays the leading role as the sculptor is said to give a performance of haunting power and uncanny reality. After a fire which melts and totally destroys his London collection of wax effigies of famouR beauties and infamous characters of history, he comes to a large American city, where His increasing display of in the amazingly lifellice "statues" nude arouses the suspleins of the police Glenda Farrell plays the feminine lead as an up-to-the-minute girl reporter who ferrets out the Taves the life of a girl who la about to be the victim of a manine, sees that a number of twisted love affairs including her own go straight.
