Tithe War Mystery on a Farm.

DISAPPEARANCE OF CORN RICKS

Bideford, Oct. 20.

There's mystery in the air at Howell Farm, Buckland Brewer, the scene of the North Devon tithe war, which is now in its fifth week.

The farmer, Mr. L. W. Brown. who is supported by n guard of Fascists, has refused to pay, and the bailiff has been "in possession" of two eomaricks and one hayrick. But the two cornricks have dis- appeared-how and when no one will say,

No waggen can approach the farm as the farmer has dug a deep trench across the private road leading to the farm, and the Fascists are guarding every pos alble line of approach,

At the entranco is a battered old motor-car, which is swung ncross the road each time a visitor has parsed after showing his creden tinis.

How could the ricks have gone? On Sunday 30 Blackshirts had a rendezvous at the farm, but there is no clue, such as a straw-strewn path perosa the fields.

A British subject who escaped from the Foreign Legion more than zeven years ago and now wants to go back, presented him-! self at the gendarmerie and gave himself up.

The former legionary, Andrey Dunn, who was born at Greenock on January 6, 1900 told the astonished gendarmes his story.
