Borderers Beat The Orpheus
In a friendly cricket match played between the II. Q. Wing of the South Wales Borderers and the H.M.S. Or. yesterday afternoon at Soo- Phyton Y, 4. Wing emerged victors by 115 runs.
The Bordorers batting was ex- cellent, especially that of Wilson whose score of 40 did much to place them in a winning position.... Church, Mullane, and Wilson were soon at their best in the bowling, sharing eight wickets between them.

POOR RUGBY BY CLUB
MUST TRAIN IN MID-WEEK
OUTPLAYED BY EAGLE
(By "Line Out”).
H.M.S. Eagle beat a Club "A" XV yesterday evening at Happy Valley by one goal and a try (8 points) to nil.
The Club were hardly ever out of their own '25', and had not Slater for the Eagle been so selfish a huge score would have been the result. At it was the Eagle scored two anatch tries in the second half, the last being converted by Judd with a very fino kick from the touch line.
It is a mystery why more of the Club players do not train during the week, na'they gave a hope- less exhibition yesterday, and allowed the Engle players to run exactly where they wanted.
The ball camo out from the scrum" on the Club side perhaps) 2 twice during the game, and when It did the backs could do little 10 with it.
WANTED—A LEADER. The forwards lacked an efficlont Oleader. They never knew whether they were meant to try and heel or take the ball with them, and the 8 entire pack were guilty of stand- 29 ing about watching their op 148 it was lucky for the Club that the Eagle backs made so many mistakes in handling and passing Judd, the Eagle full back played well and looks as though he is a Hikely, candidate for the Navy ful back position. THE REAL CAUSE. On the whole I think that staleners after a season's cricket with a bit of an interrognum after it is the cause of the trouble, together with the fact that there was not a fast bowler on
the side.
I am told that there is not a good one in Shanghl, but unless Elliot has completely loat his old form, or could not get away, I feel sure his selection

Had the side been playing on the wicket which served for our first match with Malaya, I think a very different story would have resulted. And no doubt the batting would have correspondingly improved. Moreover I think it is only fair to say that the luck was against them. It is heart- breaking to lose the toss twice running

the fourth innings of the Malaya match definitely cost them the game.
I find it difficult to make up my mind about the batting but I fancy
4.45 p.m. Chinese Challenge Cup. it was rather of the panicky variety
It was originally intended to hold Booth played very well and so did Grifin Pairs race but, this has since Stokes on certain occasions, but been cancelled Madar did not touch his true form and there was often a weakness in the middle batsmen.
