East, not being vulnorable, is justified In over-1 calling with three diamonds. South's three spades over East's three diamonds is a' constructive bid practically the same as a bid. of four spades,

With the information that part- ner holds at least a five-card suit, and does not have support for the heart sult, North, now can support. the spade suit to four. When

South bids five spades, ho pract tically shows 100 honours and, he Is saying that, if North has im- mediate control of the heart auit, there probably is a slam in the hand.

Due to the fact that East has bid diamonds, North has a right to figure his partner for the ace of clubs. He knows that the spade suit is solid, but the danger of the hand is the king of dia- monds. If South plays the hand at spades, the diamond suit will be opened through North's king, and East and West may cash two diamond tricks.
