FEAR OF FEUD

Now Delhi, Nov, D. Mystery still envelops the cir- cumstances surrounding the assas sination of Nadir Shah, evon the Foreign Department is still without. nows and hitherto has been relying on Reuter messages received In Bombay.

Civilians and officials, nike, fear that the outrage emanates from a feud between Nadir Shah's supporters and those factions in Afghanistan who have been In- triguing for the return of ex-King

Amanullah.

The feud has already caused the murder, in Berlin, of Nadir Shah's | brother and a series of political ferimos at Kabul last year.)

It is generally rumoured that! ox-King Amanullah in intending n personal attempt to return to Afghanistan where his stock is still high in certain districts and his precipitous reforming zeal is noparently forgotten.

The acting Foreign Secretary and ex-Counsellor to the British Legation at Kabul in an interview with Router, said that the authori. ttes had for some time been fearing such an outrage and the different: factions in Afghanistan are so bit- ter that it is impossible to prodiet. where events may lead,,

He added that it is significant that the asanasination occurred during the absence from the capital of both the Premier and the Foreign Minister. The for- mer is the strong and honest half- brother of Nadir Shah and may be relled upon to remain loyal to Nadir's son, who is a promising youth of 21 years and is described as a "chip of the old block".

A British Legation despatch from Kabul confirms Nadir Shah's assassination, but does not add any other information except that: the assassin is a student, probably another of a batch of students ropatriated from Germany, and pro- bably the same assassin who mur- dered a British Legation official at Kabul last September.

It la feared that tribesmen will attempt to loot Kabul, which will mean that the tribesmen on the British side of the frontier will rush to participate, but hope is placed in, the fact that the Afghan Army laat present disciplined, well paid and fed and stands be- hind the new King.

Meanwhile, according to a tele- gram received at the Bombay Con- Bulate, the whole nation is report- ed to be mourning for the late King and is unanimously declar! Ing, allegiance to his son-Reuter. Minister Returning.
