Solution to Previous Contract Problem

West can hardly be criticized for doubling a five dinmond con- tract on the following problem hand. However Mr. John Rau, youngest player ever to win a national champlonslip, was suc- cessful In ninking the contract.

The Bidding

South bid 030 heart. Wont passed and North bld two din- monds. South bid three clubs, North bid three no trump and South bid four clubs. North bid four diamonds and South wont to five diamonds. West doubled and Mr. Bau in the North doubled.

West return- ed a spule, North winning with the king and then leading the eight of diamonds which West won with the jack.

West returned another apado which Mr. Rau in the North trumped with the six of diamonds, after which he led the seven spot,
