CHOICE

Since my notes appeared last week, the Interport Selection Committco have sat in solomn conclave and have selected the Colony XI to do battle against Malaya on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next. While there may be one or two sur- prises in the team, it is on the whole quite sound, and one which promises to justify the confidence of the Selection Committee.

As has already been announced In these columas, the following players have been selected:-H. Owen Hughes (Capt.), G: S. Dunk- ley, T. Redmond, P. V. Williama, A. R. Minu, T. A. Pearce, E. R. Duckit, E. C. Fincher, F. Goodwin, A. C. Hamilton and C. C. Barth- walte.

It will thus be seen that we have wendth of batting talent, and there are no fewer than eight bowlera, all of whom are capable taking many wickets. And it is also a good folding side-at least on paper.

THE BIG SNAG.

But with tell these advantages, feel that there is something missing. True, we have six all- rounders in the side, good batsmen and good, bowlers, but when one analyses the bowlers, one will find, as I was complaining last week,

Here's where Washington went into the lead in the second game of the World Series—Goose Goslini's home run in the third.. Costin, aniling, is shown erossing the plato. Also shown are' Catcher Mancuso of the Olants, Umpire Morlarity and Heinte Manual, who followed Goslin at bat. This run gave Washington a lead until the sixtlı-vhen O'Doul went to bát so a pinch hitter.

There need be no qualms on the The Selection Committee have part of the selectors as to their preferred Goodwin to Pereira. being in the position to choose an confess I did not expect this, but cleven which will not only be I am also aware that Pereira has representative of the Army and lost a lot of his former pace, and the Navy but also quite strong not very successful in the enough to give both Malaya and trials. I would feel no qualma about the side if there was a really good slow bowler besides Bling and Pearce, but in fairness to the Selection Committee I must say that even if They had had that object in mind, they had no other bowlers from whom to choose. With Burnett off colour and Madar sick, there is no other slow medium paced bowler worthy of consideration.
