Lieut-Commander Dixon was sentenced to be severely reprimanded and dismissed his ship.
It was not a serious accident. H.M.S. Courageous. was cruising off Great Yarmouth on September 24 when she went heavily aground.
She was only on the bank for about an hour, how- ever, with the rise of the tide, the giant ship was re- floated by her own engines running astern. Subsequent examination in dock showed that she had suffered no damage as the result of the grounding-Reuter.
