By "The Stumper."
This being the eve of the third and final trial to assist the Selection Committee in picking a Hongkong XI to play against Shanghai and Malaya in the forth. coming Triangular Inter port, I have chosen the moment to conmence my cricket notes. Interest in cricket must be centred, for the next month at least, on the interport, matches, and A propose to discuss Hong- kong's prospects players in this article.

Interport Cricket Teams
-Official
LOCAL SELECTIÓN COMMITTEE
The first official announcement of the Shanghai and Malaya Interport cricket teams has been made by the Hongkong Cricket Club this morning.
After the-form.shown by some of the leadlog local players at the end of the last cricket season, I must confess to a fooling of disappoint.mittee mant at the exhibition of most of thom during the trials. I walked away not only disappointed, but also with a conviction that trials
were
not a bit of good and that no harm could be done by scrapping them in futura. What good are trials if Choy did not show you a man's real capabilities?
OBSESSION, WHICH DESTROYS.
you noticed a normally good Have batsman going to the wicket with only one thought in his mind to impress the Selection Committee at any cost- and this bocoming such an obsession that he fails to do himself Justice? What seems to be the matter with most of our younger players at the trials,
But I am one of the staunchest supporters of this "Interport Neta" scheme, which was started some years ago. Under the scheme, candidates for interport honours are allowed to -practise at these nots and the Selec op. on Committee are given an portunity of watching them in action. think this is a very sound, idea and offer a good chance of gauging n player's capabilities.
a
But since it has been decreed that we must have trials, let us discurs what we have learned from the last two. To begin with, it has to bo admitted that whilst we are in happy position as regards batsmen, we are definitely weak in attack. It La-not so much that we are short of bowlers, as that wo lack variety.
• NOT GOOD ENOUGH,
In addition the selection com- of the Hongkong eleven has been made known. It comprises Messrs. R. H. B. Hancock, T. E. Pearce, A. W. Hayward and H. Owen-Hughes.
The two visiting teams are as follows:

F. D. Foreira, F. Goodwin, A. C. Hamilton, C. C. Garthwaite and E. R. Duckitt are all more or less the samo, type. Then we have perhaps our best bowler in A. I. Hinu, who is Rafthanded; G. C. not good enough to this attack dismiss the visiting teams cheaply.
E. C. Fincher's position as opening bat seems to be quite sale. He is by far our best opening batsman. By his display in the second, trial, Duckitt incronsed his chances of in- clusion considerably, I think ho should partner Flacher na Hong- Long's: opening pair.

Apart from one or two attractivo ties to-morrow, chief interest in league football this week-end is to be found in the return to the arena of South China, who, fresh from their suc- in Nanking and St. Shanghai, entertain Joseph's on Sunday.

And unless a 48 hours sea trip has robbed the champions of their land legs, or St. Joseph's can show thay have learnt a thing or two during the absence of their opponents, I fee that the Saints are going to have their 100 per cent. record apollt.
not a little fucky JL
Joseph's were to retain the much-coveted record Inst week and as they cannot expect to be treated so generously by the South China forwards as they were by the Kowloon sharpshooters(!), the defence will have to be at its very best to remain intact. ....
If nothing else the occanfou Ahould offer A. V. Gusano unlimited scope to reveat. his ablilties, and there is small doubt that he will nelze the opportunities with both never worrien hands, for "A.V." about the odds.
South. China, can rest assured that a warm welcome will await them from. their enthusiastic supporters, who for three weeks now have been denied the sight of their favourites in action.
It should be an entertaining match, for say what you will, St. Joseph's have tons of geod football in them,
Heath, the Lincolas, goalkeeper, who is fast earning for himself the reputation of being the boil cus todian in the Colony.
whilst the merits of South China arg domand too well recognised to recapitulation:
PICK OF PROGRAMME,
Of to-morrow's matches, the plek seems to be the meeting of Kowloon and the Athletic on the Railway ground, and the Club and Police down at the Valley.
After the cavalier manner in which they were treated by the Borderers and the, Navy, it is nat to be expected that the Athletle will take the field bursting with confidence, more so when they reto lect the two very fino perform- ances of Kowloon ngainst the Lincolns and St. Joseph's.
Frankly I feel the Peninsula .team is due for a win and that it la going to be at the expenso of the Athletle.
Anyhow one alight, but important, alteration, has been made in the Kow loon line-up.
South China return to their senior league programme to morrow, and here is the team which is expected to be on duty, Standingt Li Tin sang, Leung In chan, Lat Kwok wai, Wang Wing, Lau Mau, Leung Shui yick, Wong Mee shun, Pau Ka-ping, Tam Kong pak and Ip Pak-wa. (Phator Ming Yuen).
The Club have been robbed of the services of Fogwell and Hynes for this match. No substitute has yet been found for Fogwell, but C. A. Wright comes in for Hynes at right back. In other départ- ments the team remains unchanged, Three alterations in the league this announced programme were morning.
In the second division the Young Indians-Athletic match is postponed as the Young Indians are taking part In the sports at Careline till.
Navy celebrations have caused the postponement of the third divi- sion tie between the Air Force and he Royal Engineers.
And the third vision match be. tween South China and the Borderers has been given a nov venue. It will be played on St. Joseph's ground at Happy Valley insend of Caroline Hill, as the latter ground is being used for school sports.
