REDUCTION IN TAXATION POSSIBLE

BRITAIN'S SOUND FINANCE

VAST IMPROVEMENT ON LAST YEAR

HALF-YEAR'S FIGURES

(Spacial to "Talograph")

Political observers in Bri- tain are confidently predict- ing a reduction in taxation in the new Budget next Spring as a result of the highly encouraging Exche- quer returns.

The figures rolenaed yesterday, covering the period from April '1 to October 21, show a net saving in expenditure of nearly £8,000,000 and a net increase in revenue of over $31,000,000...

Millions have been saved, it is Binted, on the Labour Minis- try vote owing to the decrease in unemployment.

TARIFF POLICY.

Much is also being made of the big increase in revenue as a re- sult of the tariff polley. Mr. Neville Chamberlain, presenting the Budget, estimated an increase during the year of £780,000 from this source.

In the six months from April) to September, the increase in Customs revenue was £6,039,000.

Another factor stressed in the hint that taxation reduction will be possible is that the actual ex- penditure has only exceeded re- venue by £60,229,691.

This deficit comparea with deficit of over £105,000,000 year ago at the same time.

SOLID PROSPECT.

It is understood that British nterests predominate in a new company, which has been formed by the France-Asiatic Bank, the Chosen Corporation and Japanese interests, for the purpose of ex- ploiting and prospecting minca deposits in Manchuria.

The capital of the new company seems to be on the small alde, approximately £60,000.
