THE U.S.S. CHICAGO, ONE OF THE MOSTA MODERN OF CRUISERS IN THE AMERICAN NAVY, WAS NEARLY SUNK YESTERDAY IN A COLLISION WITH A BRITISH OIL TANKER.

The cruiser, although the bigger ship, was badly damaged. The tanker struck her broadside on, and tore a huge hole in her hull.

Two officers of the U.S.S. Chicago are missing and several members of the crow are lying seriously injured in the hospital to which they were rushed as soon as the cruiser reached safe harbour.
