While the no trump response to partner's original blå ́la generally termed a sign-off and indicates weakness, it does not mean that such a bid cannot be made with a hand containing some tricks.

In today's article I wish to elour up two points with you- the bidding of a no, trump in re- aponse to partner's original bid when holding some strength, and a jump to game that is not a slam try.

The Bidding.

South, the dealer, opens with! spade. West proses and North ha ́ A choice of tivo bids-clubs or no trump..

Hla hand is not strong enough to bid tivo no trump. If the hand is oventually to be played at no trump, North cortaluly wants' to. be the doclaror. The bid of two cluba, while it is a constructivo bid is cspecially weak. There- fore the best response with this hand is one no trump.

South then bids two spades. This is termed a sign-off. bid, but remember that it does say, "Part- ner, I do have a five-card suit and am willing to play, the hand at this bid even though you have given mo a no trump response." North is now in a position to make a good constructive bid. He should not bid two no trump, as that will not convey definite information to his partner. He should try to find a fit with his partner's hand.
