I don't believe that you can count up tlist number of liigh card tricks in one rand, add it to the number in parinor's hand and in that manner determine whether or not you can make a game or slam. I have scon too many handa hold- ing six or seven tricks between thom have difficulty in oven game, | whilo-many" hands that had only two to four tricks between them mado a game and even a slam,

However, ncaa do play an impor- tant part in alam bidding, and when your partner starts making aggressive bids and slam invita tions and you hold two aces and a solid suit, don't be afraid to bet Into soven. Sovoral players mis- Nov. 6 sed a grand slam on the following Dec. 22 hand because they were afraid of Dec. 4their doubleton diamond. Dec. 10

Tol. No. 24310,

If South held a doubleton dia- mond, I believe his next bid should be two clubs. However, he is void of diamonds, and hus the jack and one of his partner's suit, therefore I believe that he should make a alam try bld of three clubs. This is a forcing bid, assuring game,

but at the game time it it a mild. glam try.

North should bid four clutis to clubs, South's show the fit. in

next bid should be five hearts, While North holds only a double- ton heart, South's bid has clearly Indicated to him that the heart sult is practically solid.

South is not afraid of making five hearts, even though North holds a singleton, so that the ton and x consititue bood support. It is true that North has a doubleton diamond, but he has two aces and South is inviting a slam, so the correct responso by North is seven hearts-not six.

West should not make the mis- take of doubling simply because he holds the ace of diamonds. If ho can win his sea of diamonds, i he can rest assured that he will have a very good score on the' board, while if his nee of diamonds is trumped, as the bidding has in- diented it will be, he is sure to studied cconomies and agriculture receive a poor score on the board.ļin Japan, America and Germany.
