CONTRACT BRIDGE

Quite often a play comes up whereby it in necessary to logo a trick in order to gain two or more tricks.

It seems hard to belleve, with all tlio cards that North and South hold in the following hand, thatị they would have any dimculty in making a small slam. However,

it is only a very careful play thut the small glam contract can be minde.

This is one of the fow hande that is an original two bid in the constructive one over one system.|

The Bidding

South should open the contract- ing with two hearts. Wost will! pass, North will bid threo dia- monds. South will then show a short second nuit by a bid of three spades.

It is not necessary to force again, as the original two bld guarantees partner a hand containing not over three losing eards and requires that the bidding be kept open until game is renched.

After the three spades North, realizing that his partner has only two losing cards, would be justi- Ged in Jumping the contract to four ne trump. However, South is afraid that partner's strength may be the ace and king of din- monds, which will be of no aosis-
