THE ROBOT STENOGRAPHER

FOR WIRELESS MESSAGES

300 LETTERS A MINUTE

Berlin.

Perfection of a robót stono- grapher to take down and type out wireless messages, is "an- nounced by Dr. Rudolf Hell, a well-known German radio techal- сілл.

He claims that his Instrument is particularly suited to transmission of news or market reports, which has hitherto necessitated the em ployment of stenographers.

Based on the principle of picture telegraphy the Instrument receives the impulses from the central dis- tributing station. These impulses, timed to 1/2000 of a second, are' received and transmitted into the letter forms, on ordinary white phper which can be duplicated with carbon copies. The machine makes two sets of imprints, one above the other, so that interference is limited.

When Dr. Hell had his machine ready for exhaustive tests, the postal authorities here sought out,, several places known for their poor wireless réceptions. - The machine was tested in these places and Government officials are said to be pleased with the performance..

It has a receiving speed of 300 letters a minute and its inventor thinks that it will be able to cut considerable wiring costs for newspaper. organizations or agencies distributing market re- parts.

It is estimated that the machine can be installed for just over £100.-Reutor.

FIRST CENTURY SARCOPHAGUS

DISCOVERED IN A CATHEDRAL

PERFECT STATE OF PRESERVATION

Milan.

A marble sarcophagus, said to date from the first century, has been discovered in Cosenza Cathe- dral. During excavations below the ancient paved floor, workmen discovered the coffin, which has been raised. It contains frag- ments of a human skeleton, and weighs more than a ton,

Carved out of a single block of Greek marble, its sculpture depicts a scene in the chase. Several hunters and amazons, in beautiful rellef, poise their spears around a huge bear. The quarry, wounded by a spear and worried by three buarhounds, has killed a fourth hound in his last struggles.

At the two ends of the coffin are sculptured griffins, the winged and taloned lions sacred to Apollo, and the fourth side of it is blank, and was probably set against a wall.

The sarcophagus is in a perfect state of preservation and only the cornico, where the inscription must have been, is worn away. The cover is also missing and is re- placed by very large bricks.

This sarcophagus is evidently a relic of the Cosontine Necropolle, situated on the side of the hill of Pancrazlo on the 'axact spot where, in 1200, the cathedral was bullt Reuter.

We like

There are some things we refuse to do to såll a car gales, but fair-dealing and the confidence of our customers are desirable, too.

For one thing, we refuse to poison anyone's mind against another make of car. We know what our car is and what it will do, and we are ready to tell you about that. But to imply defecte ́in another car is not our business.

"We have done our utmost to encourage intelligent buying of motor cars by showing purchasers how to protect their own interests, All that a good producer asks is a customer who knows quality when he sees it. An intelligent purchaser will speedily conclude that only a bad product requires bad sales methods.

We refuse, also, to adopt the role of tricky trader--that is, pretending to offer you a larger trade-in allowance, and taking it away from you, in some other way. Ford trade-in values are high, but we do not make fictitious allowances in order to get a sale which may be otherwise disadvantageous to the buyor. Our dealers take used cars upon a system of values; not by haggling or barter.

In this world no one gets something for nothing, although there are many ways of making people think that they do. The sure way to get value for value is, first, by being yourself willing to deal on that basis, and second, by dealing with a concern that has no other policy.

We refuse to keep dinning in your ears that the Ford V-8 is the best, most economical, lowest-priced car. That is claimed for several oars. Obviously it cannot be true of all. There comeą a point where claims and adjectives and all advertising hysteria disappears in its own fog. Personally, I prefer facts.

We say the new Ford V-8 is the best car we have made.

We say that our 8-cylinder car is as economical to operate aá any lower number of cylinders.

i

We say that we have always been known as the makers of good'oarg and that the many good, well-balanoed qualities of our present dat places it at the head of our line to date.

Any one wishing to do business with us on these principles will find our word and the quality of our product to be A-1, What we say about economy, operation and durability will stand good any.
