LITTLE LIKELIHOOD OF CONCESSIONS

CAPTAIN EDEN'S

VISIT

Paris, Sept. 18.

Britain's attempt to persuade France to "grant a little disarmin- ment on account as a gesture to- warda Germany," is the descrip- tion applied by political writers to the Anglo-French disarmament con- versations which are opening to-

day.

In the hope of arriving at a basis for a common dism nument policy, before taking the road back to Geneva, the British Under- Secretary

Affairs, for Foreign Captain Anthony Eden, who has borne the burden of the attempt to steer the British Plan through the Disarmament Conference, arrives in Paris to-day and will proceed at once to the Quai D'Orsay for un! interview with M. Daladier.

of flour held in various godowns in the Colony have be come seriously affected by weevils, so much so, that the Government, have been compelled to take drastic action, having condemned a considerable number of bags (in one instance said to be 1,000) as unfit for human con. sumption..

It is understood that the present stocks held in the Colony total approximately 900,000 bags, but what proportion of this is affected is not yet known. Many godowns have yet to be examined. Of those already inspected, some are "alive" with weevils. In others, few have been found.

Dealers point out that some of the stocks have been held as long as eighteen months, and that it is on account of this, coupled with the unusually dry and hot summer, that the weevil pest has spread with such alarming rapidity.

It is learned that as a result of inspections carried out by the Health Department some 50 tons of flour has been condemned and dumped into the sea.
