The Eastern Counties enjoyed an honourable draw with the visi- tors. Taking first occupation of the wicket they compiled 217, to which the West Indies replied with 383, Wiles scoring 112 and Hond 93.

Staples bowled with marked skill and his figures of 6 for 101 are scarcely a true commentary on the excellence of his bowling.

VAIN SEARCH AFTER ALARM

A few European passengers who Aaw but were not quick enough to prevent the act, raised the alarm, and the vessel was turned round and a search made for the woman. She was not seen again.

Papers in a handbag which the woman left behind enabled the Pallee to identify her as Poon Shi, living at No. 49, Johnstone Rond, Wanthai.

The motive for the suicide is being investigated.

YAUMATI FERRY INCIDENT. An attempt by another Chinese Woman to commit suicide by throwing herself from the Yaumati ferry Man Cheung, was prevented by a prompt rescue effected by a senman, Chung Pang.

The Incident occurred shortly after noon yesterday, as the vessel was on its way to Hongkong.

Suffering from exhaustion and immersion, the woman, Liu Sik- man, aged 43, was given first-aid. She was handed over to the Police and her case was subsequently re- ferred to the Secretariat of Chin- cse Affairs.
