Nearly a million throats will be yelling themselves hoarse in England on Saturday when Association Football, the King of all games among Englishmen, will start on a new season lasting from the end of August until the begin- ning of May next year.

Although players and spectators have been grumbling for the Inst decade that the football season is too long, the grip it has on the imagination of them all never fails to draw them like a magnet to the freshly prepared grounds all over the country, no matter if the temperature be over 80 in the shade when the: first "Kick Off" signal is blown.

It can therefore be safely estimated that anything up to 600,000 football enthusiasts will trek to their Stamford Bridges, Fratton Parks, their White Hart Lanes and their Haw- thorns on Saturday.

LOCAL REFLEX.

Even in distant Hongkong one can find a reflex of this enthusiasm over first class football. Soccer fans anxiously await the results and follow the fortunes or misfortunes of their favourite clubs with pride
