Professor Hill explained that along the nerves there are weak to transmit points, where ability

ELECTRICAL STIMULI.
He therefore applied electrical stimull to living nerves. He found that, if a strong stimulus was given at frequent intervals, the nerve continued to produce heat-but only up to a certain point. Too much stimulus resulted in a complete ahut-down of the nerve's activity. When the nerve was given too much work to do, said Professor Hill, it became "inhibited" and inoperative.

The scientists never cease their war on leprosy. Quietly and with- out spectacular publicity they work in their laboratories against this dread disense,
An advance in this "war" has been announced by the Edward Wood Memorial, of Washington, who state that the germ of leprosy has been isolated.
This has been done by Dr. Earl B. McKinley, denn, of George Washington medleal school, and Dr. Malcolm H. Soule of the University of Michigan. It is regarded as an important stop forward, for scientists have been trying

The women of Andalusin do not like men with moustaches,
In Aznalcollar, known locally as "the village of moustaches," they have rebelled and are using ali their wiles to persuade their men- folk to shave their upper lips.
Nearly every man in the village has a moustache of the good old- fashioned kind, covering large part of the face.
The boys of the village rub their upper lips with bacon fat to make the hair grow.

SCIENCE BELIEVES.
IT KNOWS
Chiengo, Illinois. What makes you tall or short, blonde or brunette, blue-eyed or brown-eyed? Probably it is n bundle of atoms known as a "molecule" which you inherited from your parents.
All characteristics which people derive from their parents are bel loved to be controlled by tiny particles known as "geues," and the theory that these genes are "molecules" or bundles of atoms wae advanced before the Ameri can Association for the Advance ment of Science recently.
"Gencs," or combinations of them, are believed to control in-1 heritance by belag passed on frum generation to generation through human cells. When a short man appears in a race of tall people, or a brunette turns up in a family that has been blonde for genera- tions, it. is believed to be caused by a change or "mutation" in the particular "genes" that control height or hair colour.-Reuter.

BOYCOTT WEAPON
PROPOSAL FOR TRADE UNION CONGRESS
London, Aug. 19. British Labour, through the General Council of the Trades Union Congress, has called for a boycott of German goods and ser- vices. The Congress meets early in September when tho лgenda, including the motion for a German boycott, will be considered.
The Council; in stressing the severe setback sustained by inter national Trades Unionism owing to the Nazi Bolzure of German Trade Unions, urges the boycott, in the hope that it will bring home to the German Government the fact that the crimes committed cannot be condoned.
The ban, according to the report issued by the Council, must be made so effective that the German people will sweep away the present regime and revert to the ways of freedom. -Reuter.
