A FORECAST

The Telegraph learns that legislation to provide for the licensing of local cabarets or dancing halls will shortly be presented to the Legislative Council.

It is not proposed to draft.a new Ordinance to govern the regula tion of cabarets. An amendment to an existing ordinance is consi- dered aufficient, and law for the control of cabarets will be incor- porated in Ordinance No. 8 of 1887, which is a consolidating Ordinance relating to various licences.

We were officially informed this morning that Government is now engaged in drafting the addition to the Ordinance and it is expected that it will come before Legisla tive Council early next month.

THE ORDINANCE.

"Ordinance No. 8 of 1887 relatea to the requirement of licences by auctioneers, billard rooms, hawkers, money-changers, public vehicles, the bearer or driver of Ja public vehicle, and undertakers of Chinese funerals, which is covered under seven sub-sections
