EVENING GOWNS

A Blow to the "Don't Dress" Movement

(From a Paris Correspondent)

The "don't dreas" movement has received a blow. Women have gone back to being "beautiful ladies, richly dressed," in the evening.

Clothes that can go on from five to midnight are still fashionable, but they are getting a lot of com- petition from dresses that can only bloom in a glittering evening atmosphere. The Judgment of Paris has been passed' in favour of the real evening dress for ove ning wear, when, and if possible.

There are lots of traces of the "don't dress" fashions in those formal evening clothes for Spring 1983. Sleeves, far from being a disgrace on an evening gown that

Woollen dresses are smart for formal evening wear, but they are always daringly low cut, and very long, to compensate for their day- time fabric.

Formal evening frocks this sea- son almost invariably have long skirt, either to the tocs, or tralling a little.' Dinner dresses on the other hand, are mostly ankle, or Instop length, no longer.
