Doctor's Unique Operation

In order to save a finger on an Air Force Mechanic's left hand, on which depends his compotence ns a musician, doctors at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Rand- wick, have undertaken a unique operation..

Erucat Keller was working a lathe at Richmond aerodrome when his ring-finger was jammed In. the machinery, and severely lucerated.

An amputation was proposed by the doctors, but, In answer Keller's pleading that amputation might mean to him the loss of h livelihood, they decided to make an effort to save the finger.

An incision was made in the body, above the groins, and the mulflated finger was stragged in- elde it.

It will be left there until now skin has grafted, and it will be then cut out, and the flaps of skin would round it to form a new finger.

A saxophone player, violinist, and pianist, and bandmaster of No. 3 Squadron, Keller said that be would sacrifice half his life rather than lose his musieni accomplishments.

The pain from the operation wAB intense, he declared, but he resign- ed, himself to it in the hope of ultimate recovery.
