ROYAL “TALKIES”

QUEEN SEES "JACK'S THE BOY"

London. The Queen has been to the pic- tures again,

She paid her second visit to the "talkies" recently when she went to a charity matinee at the New Gallery Cinema.

All the Princes, of course, are regular visitors to the London cinemas. The Prince of Wales may often be seen slipping on- obtrusively into a great cinema in Leicester-Square. But, until, re- cently, the King and Queen had never seen a "talkie" and had acen very few silent pletures either.

Her Majesty certainly seemed to enjoy herself. She smiled and laughed all through the pro- the films gramme. These were she saw

Mickey Mouse in "Mickey's Nightmare".

Laurel and Hardy in "Twice Two":

The coloured Silly Syrupbany. "Babes in the Wood".

Jack Hulbert in "Jack's the Boy".

They also showed a fim of the Queen opening hospitals and inspecting organisations. It was one of the few occasions on which the Queen has seen a film, of her- Belf-Reuter.

THE HAUNTED SENATE

GHOSTS WALK IN CHILE

Santiago, Chile. An evening session of the Cham- ber of Deputies was disturbed res cently when a clerk burst into the Chamber, crying, that he Was pursued by ghosts,

On his evidence six cun- gressional guards and a party of deputies went to the top floor of the building and reported that there were signs of intruders in the room indicated by, the clerk.

The subject of ghosts in parlia ment has now been solemaly brought

in the Chamber. Evidence has been offered from several sources, patrol policemen reporting that they have heard women scream in the Senate hall at night.

It is believed by the deputies that the weird phenomena are ghosts of a fire in 1863.

QUEER TASTE JESSIE THE OSTRICH

'London.

Jessie the strich at the Lon- dan Zoo, who has died, was no animal of queur tastes. A photo- graph is now being shown in Lon- don of the result of a post-mortem examination made on the bird. This showed that Jessie's stomach resembled a department store. It contained:

3 Handherchiefs;

1 Child's glove:

1 Woman's glove:

4 Pennies:

1 Half crown;

1 Halfpenty:

13 Nails:

1 Lead pencil;

G Screws;

2- Staples;

5 Washers:

4 Yards of string;

3 Buttons.

But the authorities are wonder-

ing who gave the ostrich half a crown to cat. Surely it' did not happen during the depression!----
