A SPY'S WORK

OBJECTION TO HIS LIVING

IN BRITAIN

London, May 4.

A former Germon spy had the distinction of having a debate in the House of Lords devoted to himself to-day, when the queation | of hla residing in Britain cropped up. He is Captain Von Rintelen. whose permission to realde in Britain, Viscount Bertie was most anxious should be revoked.

that during Lord Bertie sald the war Von Rintelen was

л sрy and aaboteur against Britain and the Allica, for which he had served a sentence of four years' imprison- ment in the United States. Lord Bertie quoted from a book by Von Rintelen describing how he entered America by menna af a forged pnasport, and how incentllary bombs were placed in munition ships timed to explode after the ships were outside American waters.

The Earl of Lucan, replying on behalf of the Government, CX- pressed the opinion that Von Rintelen's presence

was not de- trimental to Britain.

Baron Newton described how Von Bintelen was trapped into re- turning to Europe, by a telegram sent in the name of the German Government

Admiral Sir by Reginald Hall, and

taken prisoner on his arrival off Falmouth.

WIB

Lord Bertie pressed that his motion for revocation of the per-3 mission to reside in Britain be taken to a division, and the motion was defeated by a margin of four- teen, votes.-Reuter Special,

"I think it over."

"That's right!" He walked with her to the door. As he grasped the knob Mora raised her eyes uncertainly.

"May-may I ask who is doing me this honour?" She said timidly. Then she smiled, the formality of her question Bounded like a mo- tion picture caption.

Mr. Garretson smiled too. "You may. The gentleman in question is Barry Townsend."
