ATHLETIC

KEEN FOOTBALL| YESTERDAY

(By "Veritas")

Possessing a surprising lack

of skill and finesse the vital league football match between South China and the Athlotic yesterday which saw the Caro- line Hill team collect another two points, was notable and kept interesting by the intensity of the struggle and the import- ance of the issue which rested on it.

An an object of clever football the Kame was as disappointing as one could wish or expect from two such falented teams, yet never once did ita interest wane. A big contributing factor to this was the closeness of the scores and the possibility, which exist ed up to the Inst whistle, of the Athletic matching a point from their ndversaries,

On the whole South China descrved to win. And this, despite the fact that the Athletic should have been Two goals to the good in the first half and with a little prudence before goat would have scored mother two in the second.

It was, in fact, thin slightly better finishing which won the game for the potential champions. Both sets of forwards were faulty in, this respect, but the Athletic were the more glar ing offenders.

The Wah Yan College held thair eighth annual sports meeling oa Tuesday, and this picture shows the start of the bicycle race, one of the most keenly contestad events of the programme.

ONE FOOTED PLAYERS

THEY FACE A BIG HANDICAP

(By "Saracen")

What wo call the "one footed" player in very greatly handicapped. It is, in fact, common to, see a inan miss a favourable scoring change he- enuse he dare not trust his weak leg to shoot with. What happens is thini he waits until he can get the ball over to lifa strong fool and then the route to goal is blocked,

In a first Division match recently as many as three forwards on one side depended mainly on one foot and on the hard ground where the bull wus lively and difficult to control they were at the mercy of the opposing halves.

In every cunc, it is perimps true to say that one fool is stronger than the ather. Even when a mon can use both successfully be puta more faith in one than the other. One of the best two footed players to-day is Joe Hulme, the Blying Arsenal outside right. He not only works the ball with both feet lut he can shoot equel- ly well with either and it does not make any difference whether the bal is dead or moving.

It is surprising that players are content to struggle along with only one really effective foot. In the ense of the professional, it is excusable, For it is unquestionable that a mun

The Scottish league season closes this week, but as the championship has already been decided, little interest is excited by the programme. The special F'elegraph forecast follows:
