Possessing a surprising lack

of skill and finesse the vital league football match between South China and the Athletic yesterday which saw the Caro- lino Hill team collect another two points, was notable and kept interesting by the intensity) of the struggle and the import- ance of the issue which reated on it.

As an object of clever football the Kame B disappointing as one could wish or expect from two such talented teams, yet never once did itu interest wone, A big contributing factor to this was the closeness of the scores and the possibility, which exist. ed up to the land whistle, of the Athletic nateling a point from their niversarics..

On the whole South China denerved to win. And this, despite the fact that the Athletic should have been two goals to the good in the first half and with a little prudence before goal would have scored another two in the second

It was, in fact, this slightly better Anishing which won the game for the potentini champions. Both gets forwards were faulty in this respect, but the Athletic were the more glar- ing offendera.

South Chinn's two goals were gems, and the Athletic's was thoroughly deserved. Unfortunately for them it! came too late in the game, South China were on their toes and well ablo to resist the strongest challenge.

ONE FOOTED PLAYERS

THEY FACE A BIG

HANDICAP

(By "Saracen")

What wo call the "one footed" player in very greatly handicapped. It is, in fact, common to see a man mlas a Cavourable scoring chance be- cause he dare not trust his weak lex to shoot with. What happens is that he waits until he can get the ball over to his strong foot and then the route to goal in blocked.

In a first Division match recently as many as three forwarda on one side | depended mainly on one foot and on the hard ground where the ball was lively and difficult to control they werd at the mercy of the opposing halves.

In every case, it is perhaps true to any that one foot is stronger than the other. Even when a man can use both successfully he puts more faith in one than the ether. One of the bent two footed players to-day is Joe Hulme, the ying Arsenal outside right. He not only works the ball with both feet but he can shoot equal- y well with either and does not make any difference whether the ball is dead or moving.

It is surprising that players are content to struggle along with only one really effective foot. In the case of the professional, la excusable. For it is unquestionable that a man

It is often said that a first-class footballer should be able to play in any position.
