HAPPY ADVERTISING. 4.
Romance in Business? undoubtly there is, and the interest attached to our own business is worth
recording.
Very many years ago, when the Late King Edward VII. was Prince of Wales and serving withi the Royal Navy on the Mediterranean Station, our Mr. C. I. Bernard had the honour of serving closely with His Royal Highness.
Imminent retirement from the Service and a capacity for business suggested to Mr. C. 11, Bernard the necessity for reviewing the prospects, which finally resulted in the blue skies and the happy comradeship of the Navy being left behind in the Mediterranean.
That Mr. Bernard was eminently successful in business is emphasised by the fact that within n few months he had secured important Navn contracts, and further, had built up such μL spoelalised business, was commanded to appear at Buckingham Palace for the purpose of receiv ing orders for the Royal Household. Thus for many years the House of Bernard had the signal! privilege of being the exclusive tailors to H.R.JI. The Prince of Wales, II.R.H. The Duke of York, IL.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester, and to Princess Mary Viscountess Lascelles,
In April 1902, Mr. C. H. Bernard was granted the Royal Warrant of Appointment, and the issue of the "Court Circular" for that month gave considerable space in outlining Mr. C. H. Bernard's success, and suggesting that he was persona grata at Court,
We then received the honour of provising the first uniforms for Their Royal Highnesses, and to- day we still have the privilego of serving Members of the Royal Household,,
From the happy comradeship of the Mediterranean of the inte 'elghties has sprung the business which carries large Naval contracts, and a service which supplies more than 30,000 personel of His Majesty's Navy.
Last year over two hundred miles of cloth were used in our extensive workrooms, and three thousand work-people were kept employed,
Our activities cover the world and where so very many years ago, Mr. C. II. Bernard had the now have thrco well fitted honour of serving with His late Majesty King Edward VII, wo establishments, Barely a token of well considered enterprise.
To-day in Hongkong wo have brought a service which must ingvitably lead to better shopping facilities and reasonable prices in the Colony,
