The early ambition of Spencer Tracy was to become a great surgeon, but instead, maro by force of eir cunstances than anything elac, he became an actor. It was while ho wan attending Marquette Univeraity that a sories of events changed the trend of his plans. There he was in- duced to portray a role in a college play and he enjoyed it so much that he decided to leave Marquette and enter the American Academy of Dramatic Art where he laid the foundation for his career on the stage and acreen. In "Me and My Gal Tracy plays the role of an im- perturbable yonng detective who finds omance with n girl cashier in a re staurant, a love affair that leads him to the trail of a murderer on whose nd there is a reward of $10,000. It le mald to be a gripping drama of life in New York, tempered by rich comedy altuations. The picture was reeted by Raoul Walsh who directed "Wild Girl" Miss Bennett's recent success, "The Yellow Ticket" Bud "The Cock Eyed World".
"As You Desire Me" Greta Garbe in an exotic silver wig and black harlequin costume presentu vivid portrayal as the heroine of firandello's great play, "As You Desire Mc. The screen version of thie stage hit opens on Saturday at You the Queen's Theatre, "As Desire blo" affords Miss Garho a dual character, ar it were, later changing her personality and mood to fit the demure and fragile creature nie whose memory she projects hor and life. Indeed, the story in se unuauul- ly annealing in unique treatment, that it holda the interest of a genuine life drama. Miss Garbo, if it needs to Buid, is, as usual, magnificent. Her every inflection, Blightest RES- ture, adds poteney to the role in which he obviously submerged herself. Miss Garbo's talents are entirely in- dividual and, in the opinion of this reviewer, the most artistic the screen has produced since its inception. Ar Zara, the cafe entertainer who mas- ouerades as the missing wife of Count Bruno, distracted war veteran, Miss Garbo ecllpacs hor greatesi: triumphe. While not as completely sympathetic as some of her previous parts, the Pirandelio role offers hor The widest latitude in emotionalism she has ever played. George Fitz- maurice, who directed. from Gene Mackey's adaptation of the stage hit. Bielvyn Douglas, one of the screen's newest romantic sensations, plays opposito the glamorous star, enacting the role of the Italian nobleman who accepts the woman with a past as the wife who
was torn from him in the devastation of warfare. Erich Von Stroheim provides sufficient menace as Zara's persecutor, Saltor. The re- mainder of the excellent cast includes Hedda

One of his most successful stories, which was serialized in a national weekly before its publication in book form, in "Robbera' Roost", a realistic tale of cattia rustlers in Arizona. Fox films executives recognized the volume es an ideal vehicle for George O'Brien, who holds the distinction of being the most popular of all Western screen actors. The picture version of thin thrilling novel is now showing at the King's Theatre.
