The prisoners were housed in one of the temples in Peng Naam, which have been turned into bar- racks or military headquarters. Yesterday, on Ching Ming, the po- pular Chinese holiday, four of the robbers were taken out and exe- cuted. Those who paid the death penalty for their crimes were con- sidered to be exceptionally hard cases, and the authorities showed ne mercy. Although two were women, they were all carried to the execution grounds and shot.
As they were being led to their deaths, the prisoners showed their contempt for death by singing and tried in this way to keep up their courage.
