MR. W. LOGAN'S SPEECH

On the grounds that they can see no good and sufficient rea- son for such a step, the V.R.C., have decided not to join the new Hongkong Swimming As- sociation.

This was revealed by Mr. W. Logan at the annual meeting of the club. yesterday, which means. that the V.R.C, will act indepen- dently of the Association.

Mr. Logan furnished the in- formation that efforts were already being made by the Club to arrange an Interport contest with Shang- hal,

Mr. Logun old: As you have seen reported in the Hongkong Tele graph a short time back, a new swim- ming association Has been formed un der the title of the "Hongkong In- ternational Swimming Association," with the avowed purpose of controll ing competitive swimming and water- polo in the Colony. As most of you know, the V.R.C. has decided not to associate itself with this movement, but very few of you are fully congnisant of its rea-- sons for this decision. I will there- fore acquaint you with some of the facts of the case, in order that any misapprehensions may be removed.

TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING

HEADING IS BEING OVERDONE

(By "Saracan")

The old player declares that there is far too much heading in present day gootball. The ball, he says, is too often in the air. If this is true, it is probably due to the way the game has changed since the alteration of the off-side Inw.c

To-day, the contre-half, És I have previously explained, is large- ly a defensive player and he wagea. war continually with the opposing centre-forward. That is to say, when a pass is sent down the mid- dle the two men, rubbing shoulders together, contend for it and nine times out of ton,the half forcés it back with his head.

He could not of course, do this " unless the ball arrived in the air and he cannot be blamed for it. He has, however, so influenced the game that the two inside forwards play in an exaggerated W formation and from their places in the rear to get the ball forward they have to get it up owing to the neces- sary length of their passes, This W formation is not new. Inside forwards of thirty years ago adop- ted it, but they did not fall as for back as the men of to-day and hence they could keep their passes down.

Another reason kyly there is so

SATURDAY'S FOOTBALL able chance to set up a telling at much heading is that players have into a most "unfortunate tack they must, not only place fallen

it habit of running on to the ball. The Hongkong Football Associa the ball accurately but. send tion notifies for Saturday:
