CASSUMBHOY

THE GIANT KILLER

BRILLIANT FEAT AGAINST LO

STRAIGHT SETS VICTORY

(By "Veritas")

J. A. E. Casiumbhoy, the young Indian Recreation Club player astounded the local ten n's community yesterday by eliminating M. W. Lo a former champion in the semi-final of the open singles in three straight sets. He now meeti his club mate, S. A. Rumjabu in the final which takes place on Tuesday, March 21.

д

Camumbhoy surpassed all previous fonts in his truly brilliant victory! ard has assured himsef, of place among the leading local ex- ponents of the game. He may not best Rumiahn in the final but if h plays anything up to his current form, he will give the champion great fight.

REVELATION,

The most surprising, and pleasing revelation made by Cassamblay was his working knowledge of court-craft and tactics. He had Lo thoroughly beaten in both of these phases as well as in stroke production. his corner t corner driving, discriminately mixe with short chops and lobs kept L guessing throughout the match and never did the Indian lose control o the exchange.

He called the tune from the opening rally and made Lo pay the pred so the extent of a three acts reverso,

And by the way, who has claims to the fastest service in Hongkong? Judged on his game yesterday and the Exilutions oftener players during th tournament Casaumbhoy earns the distinction. Certainly he scored more aces with his firet service, than any other contestant has, and when thi failed him, he followed i. up with an eronly effcetive second delivery. which, if not so pacy, had Lu Hindi- krots with its unexpected twist and sharp rise from the ground.

MAGNIFICENT GROUND'

STROKES.

As a matter of fact I thought Cassumbhoy could have made much more use of these punishing stroke: by following up to the net, When h: particularly needed e point he did s and invarlahly succeeded, but for the most part hung back on the baseline.

But thanks to his magnificen ground strokes, he paved the way to a comfortable victory. He found the corners and tram line- with the accuray of a veteran, and Lo, sent surrying from ene sid: to the other, eventually found the por too hot for him and was lured into erroza.

M. W. Lo, a former champion, decisively beaten by J. A. E. Car sumbhoy in the sami final of the tenuia championship yesterday.

For three teams to withdraw from the league ordy, a month" from the end of the season is unprecedented in local football, and it is, of course, quite possible, that in view of the tremendous effect the expunging of their re- cords would have on the leading. teams in the first and second divisions, that the clubs will be asked to reconsider their position and endeavour to see the season through..
