THE WORLD OF WOMEN

SPRING FASHIONS.

Waist-Line Problem.

The general line of fashion is pae of such complication that an nparently simple dress takes al- most twice as much material in the cutting as it did 12 months ago.

The waist-line' is another thorn in the side of the Paris coutur- fere. One famous house which boldly dropped it to the hips last August is now frankly bringing it up again.

A second designer who brought in a tight high line is thinking twice about it this spring. ....

In other words, waista will be varied enough to please the most difficult woman, and the samo

thing applies to the jackets and: coats which are being made.

Practical coats, which will cover the entire frock, will vie for popu larity with a loose three-quarter': coat which hangs loose from the shoulders. This

the Was

coat which made a brave effort to come in last spring. It is definitely a fashion this year which will be discounted.

Quite as arresting is the news regarding the neck-lines for spring. These have crept up to the neck, both for evening and day, in many houses. One designer is draping her frocks right up to the neck in front, while the back is: definitely low.

Another house le bringing in a new neck-line for daytime wear which is almost revolutionary for its close fit high up around the throst.

Pictured. is a lovely white erepe evening dress, with colour ed touches of tangerine. The tangerine lines the draped cowl front and continues over the shoulder, down the front, ending with three petalled flowers that look like chry- santhemums. It is a form- fitting, flattering gown and the tangerine gives it life, and charm.

SALESMAN SAM

Plaids, stripes and checks abound in the new fashions, pointing to a spring of gaiety in clothes, if not in business.

Among the smartest of the new things comes a trim little suit for the jaunty yachting girl. A double-breasted, gold- buttoned, short-sleeved green linen jacket tops a brilliant green plaided skirt, in two shades. There is a scarf of the same crepe as the skirt and the hat is the green of the jacket.

For evoning, Einen is high fashion. Red and white line checked linen makes a youthful little number for dancing. A. demure capa covers the top of the frock, but don't be deceived." There's nothing too demure about the smart bathing suit har- ness back of the dress' decolletage. White gloves, white bag and a single enormous red bracelet fix the girl all up for the time of her life,
