SPRING FASHIONS.

Waist-Line Problem.

The general line of fashion is one of such complication that an nparently simple dress takes al- most twice as much material in the cutting as it did 12 months ago.

The waist-line is another thorn in the side of the Paris coutur- tere. One famous house which boldly dropped it to the hips last August is now frankly bringing it up again.

A second designer who brought in a tight high line is thinking twice about it this spring.

In other words, waists will be varied enough to please the most the same difficult woman, and

Quite, as arresting is the .news neck-lines for regarding the spring. These have erept up to the neck, both for evening and day, in many houses. One designer is draping her frocks right up to the neck in front; while the back is 'definitely low.

Another house is bringing in a new neck-line for daytime wear which is "almost revolutionary for its close fit high up around the throat..

It is a form- fitting, flattering gown and the tangerine gives it life and charm.

Plaids, stripes and checks abound in the new fashiona, pointing to a spring of gaiety in clothes, if not in business. «

Among the smartest of the new things comes a trim little! suit for the Jaunty yachting girl. A double-breasted, gold-" buttoned, short-sleeved green linen jacket tops a brilliant green plaided skirt, in two shades. There is a scarf of the same crepe. as the skirt and the hat is the green of the jacket.

For evening, linen is high fashion. Red and white line checked linen makes a youthful little number for dancing. A demure cape covers the top of the frock, but don't be deceived. There's nothing too demure about the smart bathing auit har- ness back of the dress', decolletage. White gloves, white bag. and a single enormous red bracelet fix the-girl all up for the time of her life.

BEAUTY HINTS.

Mirrors, Even Rose-

Coloured

Ones, Aid Beauty.

There was a sweet story once about a rather plain woman who bought a dress in a shop that had rose-coloured lights on either side of its mirror that gave her the illusion of being perfectly en- chanting in this certain dress.

She believed what she saw and never analyzed herself in her own mirror, but went forth with such confidence that the man she se cretly loved for a long time saw her with new eyes and reciprocat- cd.

Well, believe it or not, it would be a good thing for all women to have such a rosy-lighted mirror for certain occasions. But it is far more practical to have an honest, plain-spoken mirror for your daily. purpose..

ing" and powder the right shale. It is an excellent idea to be honest with yourself, face facts in your mirror and do something about them. Then, when you are all ready to start out to face the world, perhaps it would be a good thing to have that rosy-coloured mirror in your front hall to bid you God-speed.

The woman or girl who makes up in front of a tiny mirror that never shows the whole face can- not hope to turn out a perfect job

Be Comfortable

It is an excellent thing to have mirror that you can sit down be-- fore, when you make-up. You might just as well take it com fortably, for you will make a much better job of it if you are relaxed
